Headlines

As we approach the Easter break, it’s been another busy and eventful week at school, filled with exciting trips, accomplishments, and celebrations.

First, we are thrilled to announce the safe return of our Spanish exchange students, who arrived back on Wednesday after an unforgettable week at the Europa School in Seville. The students had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich culture and traditions of Spain, and we want to extend a huge thank you to Ms. Philip for organising this fantastic trip, as well as to everyone involved. Well done to all the students for their enthusiasm and excellent representation of our school.

Meanwhile, our Gold Duke of Edinburgh participants braved the chilly nights in the Peak District, successfully navigating their expedition course. This trip was a true test of their resilience and teamwork, and they all performed admirably. A big thank you to Ms. Borman and the staff for supporting the students throughout this challenging experience.

In another adventure, Year 12 Geographers embarked on a Field Trip to Swanage, where they explored the beautiful landscapes and coastlines, deepening their understanding of geographical processes. A special thank you to Ms. Pratley for organising this insightful trip.

We’ve also witnessed some incredible sporting achievements this week. Our senior boys basketball team and senior girls soccer team were both crowned County Champions – an outstanding accomplishment for all the athletes involved. Congratulations to everyone, and we look forward to sharing more details about these successes below.

In addition to the trips and sports achievements, we’ve been conducting final interviews for our Senior Student positions. With over 80 Year 12 students applying, it’s been a rigorous process, and we are delighted to announce the following appointments for the 2025-2026 academic year:

A very exciting announcement from Team Dance this week; we are incredibly proud to have been selected from the NSTA talent rep to perform at the awards ceremony in June. Tuxedo Dance Company will be representing Sandringham and the Dance department as they perform their finale piece to either open or close the awards ceremony at the Gillian Lynne Theatre, Covent Garden. SCHOOL NEWS - DofE GOLD

Last Wednesday, 28 students set off on their Gold DofE to the Peak District for their training and Practice expedition. The students developed their navigation and camp craft skills in dry but very windy and cold conditions, with minus temperatures during the day due to the wind chill factor and overnight temperatures dropping to around freezing.

The students experienced walking in different terrain, walking on bearings and pacing as well as learning to select the best routes when off path and in boggy sections. There were some interesting menu choices, and their camp craft and cooking skills became more efficient and routine over the first couple of days.

The students finished in high spirits having learnt a lot about walking in wild country, how changeable mountain weather in the UK is and the necessity of carrying everything on the kit list. Their camp craft and team work were excellent with students maintaining their morale throughout. They are thoroughly prepared and looking forward to their assessed expedition in the Lake District. The students are also working hard on the other sections of their Gold Award. Thank you to the staff who were on the trip and to staff covering lessons back at school.

LITERACY NEWS

Easter Reading

It has been lovely to see so many students borrowing books this term and enjoying their reading, both in school and at home. A reminder that students (and staff) are welcome to borrow extra library books from the LRC for the Easter holidays. We’d be grateful if Year Eleven and Year Thirteen students could return any outstanding library books after the Easter break. Students across all year groups who have overdue library books have been sent recent email reminders and can check their overdues by logging in to Accessit. Please let the library team know if you are unable to return a book for any reason. We can’t wait to hear what you’ve been reading over the Easter holidays and hope you find the time to relax with a good book!
