Headlines

We reach the end of the year having achieved a tremendous amount at Sandringham, celebrating with students in the end of the year awards ceremonies this week. It was lovely to see so many parents present enjoying the success of their children, and I would like to congratulate all students for their enthusiasm, hard work and engagement in activities throughout the year. Eight students received the headteachers awards. Well done to:

Year 7 Rayyan J and Isla C

Year 8 Caleb M and Ella C

Year 9 William S and Olivia S

Year 10 Max H and Rachel K

We end the year with Culture Day- a wonderful celebration of all of the different cultures we have here at Sandringham School. A larger write up of this will feature when we return in September but we hope that students enjoyed the day.

By now you should have received the end of year letter giving details of those staff who are leaving, new staff arriving and information to make a successful start in September. We wish those leaving all the best and look forward to welcoming new students and staff in the new academic year.

I hope you all have a lovely summer holiday. Good luck to all of our examination students, and I look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday 3rd September 2024.

YEAR 11 NEWS

We hope that our Year 11s are enjoying a well earned summer break. We are pleased to say that the photographs from their recent Prom are now available to students on Google Classroom (Pastoral-2023-Year11Students). Many thanks to Mr Bloomfield for taking them and we look forward to seeing them for results day in August.

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT

For our final Student Spotlight this year we feature one of our brilliant Year 9 students. Whilst football and tennis fever took over the nation last weekend, there was a lot of dancing excitement for Conrad from 9A. Having achieved all Honours in his Ballroom and Latin dance exams in June for Quickstep, Tango, Rumba and Samba, Conrad gained several awards in a regional competition down in Kent. Coming third in Social Dance Test Waltz, second in Social Dance Test Rumba and fourth in Junior Couples (12-15 years) Tango and Cha Cha means that he has qualified for the Blackpool Grand Finals in November. A great way to finish off the summer term!

Congratulations to all of our students featured this year and we look forward to celebrating more students going above and beyond in the new academic year.

CATERING NEWS

From September, the student meal deal price will increase to £2.60. We always keep any increases to a minimum, but like many other organisations and schools, we are facing rising food costs. Our catering team have worked hard to manage these rising costs by working with our suppliers, and as a school we remain committed to providing healthy, balanced, and freshly cooked value-for-money meals for all our students.

THEME WEEK: PRIZEGIVING

This week’s whole school theme recognises Prize Giving. Each year, we celebrate the achievements of our students with a formal prize giving assembly. Awards are given for fantastic effort and progress throughout the year in a range of subjects and extra-curricular activities. These culminate in the most prestigious ‘Headteachers Award’ which is only given to two students each year. We encourage students to reflect on the achievements they have gained and set goals for the next academic year. Ambition is hugely important in order to be successful and we know that all Sandringham students aim to achieve as highly as possible. Consequently it is a fantastic achievement to win an award at prize giving - congratulations to everyone.

PARENT NOTICE

As mentioned previously, our finance team have set up an account with “easy2name.com”, an online company which provides name labels for clothes and equipment, which will allow us to raise some money through their fund raising scheme. When a parent places an order through www.easy2name.com and selects our unique school code, FR-SAND-85, at checkout, Sandringham will earn 20% of the order value and the parent will receive free delivery.

DRAMA NEWS

A reminder that scripts for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will be available in late August. A copy will be posted on Google Classroom, along with the rehearsal schedule specifying the exact cast members and scenes we will be rehearsing.

As our Drama clubs recently came to an end, we had a mini-celebration in Drama - a big thank you to everyone who came to help tidy up our cupboards/costumes so that everything is ready for our new clubs next year! If you haven't participated in a Drama club, September is a great chance to try something new. We have three clubs next year, Young Actor's Company (Year 7) on Wednesday lunch time, Eight Creates (Year 8) on Thursday lunch time and Sandringham Actor's Society (Year 9) on Tuesday lunch time. Anyone is welcome to attend and you can sign up on SOCS in the new term.

Well done to the following fourteen Year 9 students: Eesha M, Mia R, Ava P, Sasha G, Amelie L, Willow B, Daniel C, Liliana M, Olivia C, Daisy D, Phoebe D, Annabel M, Raieha S and Sky R-S.

Miss Willmott would like to say a HUGE congratulations to our Year 9 Dance Leaders, for completing their Level 1 qualification in Dance Leadership during their module lessons this year. She says "this is the first year it has been run at Sandringham and I am proud to say they have all achieved this qualification, with the organisation congratulating Sandringham on leading a "successful course" with "excellent dance leadership opportunities". Well done all!

STUDENT WELLBEING NEWS

As we head in to the summer break, we are aware that some students may need additional support for their mental wellbeing. The picture above includes a useful list of services students can access, should they be feeling overwhelmed.

We would also like to highlight again two excellent services which parents and students can access for support with their mental health and well-being. First Steps (who work closely with CAMHS, ED and NHS links to support young people who are struggling with eating difficulties, disorders, low self-esteem and poor body image) provide an excellent variety of resources. Young people can either self-refer or can be referred by someone else through their website www.firststepsed.co.uk. This is an excellent service for those experiencing difficulties, so if you would like to find out more, please visit the website or speak to Mrs Coyne in the SLA.

The Sandbox by Mindler is also an excellent free, NHS funded service to support children and young people in Herts with their mental health and well being. It offers access to internet enabled Cognitive Behavioural therapy, one to one support from professional therapist by texts, phone, online chat or video calls. Signing up is easy and doesn’t require a referral from a professional. You can visit The Sandbox website or click here to find out more details.

Fo$S NEWS

FO$S would like to say a big thank you to all the support from the parents this year. Through their events (Christmas Fair, Welcome BBQ And Quiz Night) and second-hand uniform sales you have helped to raise £15,000 for the school. All the money raised goes into supporting the pupils by funding equipment and activities to enhance their educational experience. Some of the projects that Fo$S have supported this year are:

  • VAR Sets and 3D Printers for Design Technology
  • Sound and Lighting project for the Main Hall
  • Gym mats and Gazebos for PE
  • Reading Pens for Learning Support
  • Portable staging for Drama
  • Benches for the whole school.
  • Plus a lot more!

Thanks as always to the Fo$S team for the amazing things that they do to support our school. If you would like to get involved with projects, please contact the admin email address and we can forward on your interest.
